General Summary: Join a dynamic team delivering innovative and effective solutions to our clients by working for a leader in the disability-based employee benefits marketplace. In this role, you will gain a deep understanding of the insurance industry, develop technical skills, and become a data driven problem solver that optimizes ongoing growth all while building a strong network of professionals.
When joining our team, your manager or team lead will assign you to meaningful, challenging project work that culminates in an end-of-summer presentation to key business leaders. Previous intern projects included helping maintain pricing and underwriting tools and valuation systems.
Program Highlights This internship is designed to provide exposure to actuarial science as an insurance career. The position provides technical support to the actuarial staff. Potential areas of assignment could include pricing, valuation, modeling, experience analysis, and business analytics. This internship will allow you to:
- Contribute to meaningful project work that will leave a lasting impact on the business
- Learn about departmental and corporate functions
- Attend weekly information sessions & networking opportunities with senior leaders across enterprise locations
- Gain exposure to networking opportunities with senior leaders across our enterprise locations
- Take part in social events, have fun and build your network with other interns
- Participate in community service activities, by supporting organizations that make our communities stronger, advocate for greater access to the benefits that strengthen our societies and families, protect the environment around us, and invest in our workplace culture
- Join an Employee Network and work with the Office of Inclusion & Diversity to help advance Unum's inclusion journey and represent the full spectrum of what makes us unique
- Actuarial interns who excel in this internship program will be considered for Unum's Actuarial Development Program. Top summer interns may be eligible to receive full-time offers to join the team after successfully completing their degree. To learn more about the Actuarial Development Program visit
- Earn college credit (School/Program Manager pre-approvals are required)
- Housing is not provided however Unum offers a lump-sum bonus to help with costs for the summer and will provide guidance on housing opportunities used by interns in the past
Program Timeline The internship program starts in late May/early June 2025 and will last 10-12 weeks (about 3 months) until early August.

Qualifications - Candidate must be currently enrolled in an accredited college degree program or be a Spring 2025 graduate
- Extensive coursework in math, actuarial science, statistics, economics, or finance
- GPA of 3.0 overall required
- Demonstrated leadership abilities and on-campus involvement
- At least 1 actuarial exam passed preferred
- Intern must be available to work 40 hours per week during regular business hours and adhere to Unum's hybrid work policy

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.
Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not. All benefits are subject to the terms and conditions of individual Plans.
