This vacancy is for a Security Specialist, GS-0080-11, located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, BASE DETACHMENT NORTH BEND, OR.

Duties

You will serve as a Security Specialist and be responsible for the management and execution of
personnel security clearance; physical security plans, including Anti-Terrorism/Force Protection
(AT/FP) and Active Shooter/Active Threat (AS/AT) scenarios for the Base Detachment and other
agreed upon units or sites; will provide technical/expert advice and assistance to all visiting
cutters and tenants' units.


Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical
work assignments include:
- Providing direction to security contractors and watch standers throughout the Base Detachment and other units or sites as dictated by SLA, to ensure an effective, secure operation that is responsive to government and contactor security needs.
- Determining the need for and analyzes security systems.
- Planning and implementing protective methods and security procedures, using intrusion detection system and devices, storage containers, safe, locks, and locking systems, personnel entry control systems, and ballistic protection measures for the protection of personnel and property.
- Conducting security in briefs and out briefs for incoming and outgoing Base Detachment personnel.
- Establishing and maintains effective working relationships with regional program staff, headquarters, federal, state, and local officials, and private industry.
- Provides annual security refresher training as required to Base Detachment and other unit
personnel as dictated by SLA.

Qualifications

To qualify for the GS-11 grade level, applicants must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

Specialized experience must include the following:

  • Identifying security vulnerabilities to perform the personnel, physical and other elements of a security program.
  • Using technology in planning and implementing protective methods and security procedures.
  • Ability to conduct complex security briefings to a variety of audiences.
  • Making recommendations regarding security methods, procedures, and policies
  • Knowledge of the e-QIP software program

3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree
