$35.00 - $42.57/hour to start. This position is eligible for District sponsored health & welfare benefits per the terms of the classified staff contract.

LOCATION: Corte Madera School , Grades 4 - 8
SALARY RANGE: $35.00 - $42.57/hour to start depending upon experience

DEFINITION: Under the supervision and general direction of the school site Principal and Office Manager, perform advanced secretarial and clerical duties. Duties require organizational and filing skills, attendance taking, and frequent communication with parents, staff and students.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: - Provide information to students, parents, faculty and school personnel regarding daily school activities and schedules, referring problems to Principal or designated staff.
- Answer phones, greet parents and visitors. Take and relay messages from parents and staff, and vice versa.
- Communicate with the Principal and Office Manager to coordinate routine school operations and maintenance.
- Help resolve student conflicts and issues, and assist in maintaining appropriate student behavior in the school office.
- Collect and maintain information packets for incoming students, and mid-year enrollments.
- Manage daily attendance, attendance reporting, and student records via PowerSchool.
- Compose routine correspondence as needed, provide clerical assistance to school related groups or assist teachers in the preparation of classroom materials.
- Administer minor, allowable, first aid to pupils, contact parents or professional help when appropriate. Dispense prescribed medication to students in accordance with district policy.
- Order a wide variety of equipment, materials, and supplies; assure receipt and proper distribution; maintain proper inventory.
- Work with parent volunteers, and interface with substitute teachers, providing necessary materials, directions and payroll information.
- Sign-in returning or tardy students, sign-out leaving, or ill students.
- Open and distribute mail, maintain office filing system.
- Assist with daily breakfast and lunch meal service distribution and program recordkeeping.
- Demonstrate interpersonal skills using tact, patience, courtesy.
- Work confidentially with discretion and adhere to the appropriate code of ethics.
- Perform other duties as assigned, as may be requested by the Principal and/or Office Manager.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of:
- District administrative programs, policies and procedures related to elementary school office functions
- Standard office clerical and secretarial best practices.
- Programs that manage communication, state reporting, attendance, grades, etc.
- Terminology, practices and procedures related to public school office processes.
- Modern office practices, procedures and equipment.
- Telephone techniques and etiquette.
- Business letter and report writing techniques.
- Methods of collecting and organizing data and information.
Ability to:
- Read, understand and follow oral and written instructions;
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and parents;
- Use correct grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary.
- Manage sensitive student, parent and/or employee situations in an effective manner;
- Maintain regular, predictable attendance;
- The use of standard office equipment, including computer and related software;
- Meet timelines and deadlines;
- Supervise students as needed.
Experience: A combination of training and experience equivalent to two years clerical experience in a public school office including experience in aspects of school office operations, one year of secretarial experience.
ADA Compliance: - Significant sitting, standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, and walking (at times over uneven ground, or at an accelerated pace).
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
- To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
- Environmental Factors: A large part of the required daily assignments will take place indoors in an office setting. Tasks are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature extremes, machinery vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, animals/wildlife, toxic/poisonous agents, violence, disease, or pathogenic substances.
- Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require visual perception and discrimination. Some tasks require oral communications ability.
