Duties Under the direction of the Head Teacher and/or Assistant Teacher, the Teacher Aide provides care for children, meeting their basic physical, social, emotional and cognitive needs. As part of a team, they assist in providing care and implementing a developmentally appropriate program for an assigned age group. The Teacher Aide reports to the Head Teacher.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to work with parents, staff and the community.
- Ensure the safety of children through constant supervision and proper maintenance of equipment.
- Ensure that child care routines are carried out in a manner that is prompt, hygienic, and consistent with good child development principles. This includes routines related to diapering, potty training, toileting, hand washing, eating, napping and transitioning between activities.
- Physically able and willing to interact with children in the indoor and outdoor environment.
- Supports the Head Teacher/Assistant Teacher in communication daily information to parents.
- Assist in maintaining daily records as assigned.
- Assist in environmental chores to maintain a pleasant, inviting classroom atmosphere in which children feel comfortable and secure.
- Participating in continuing education programs, staff meetings and SWCDC functions as required.
- Promotes effective working relationships and works cooperatively as a part of a team to facilitate the center's ability to meet its goals and objectives.
- Performs related duties as needed.
Requirements - CDA or minimum of 12 credits in Early Childhood Education
- Some experience working with young children.
- Completion of First Aid and CPR courses or willingness to complete required courses.
- Completion of Administration of Medication and Epi-Pen courses or willingness to complete required courses.
Nice To Haves - Knowledge of NAEYC standards and practices.
- Knowledge of Connecticut Early Learning and Developmental Standards (CT ELDS)
- Knowledge of Connecticut Documentation and Observation for Teaching System (CT DOTS)
