The Rockwall County Library has an opening for a part time Library Assistant. This position includes two afternoons and evenings (Tuesday and Thursday) per week and at least three Saturdays per month with a possibility of other hours as required (up to 21 hours per week).

Duties :

• Perform routine circulation functions such as checking library materials in and out, collecting fines, registering patrons, filling reserves, completing clerical tasks and shelving books.
• Provide ready and directional reference service to citizens.
• Assist patrons in using the on-line catalog and finding materials.
• Assist librarians in preparing for and conducting library programs.
• Other tasks as assigned.

Requirements :

• Requires accurate computer skills, careful attention to instructions, good interpersonal communication skills, good telephone skills, flexibility and ability to work well under stress and maintain a welcoming attitude.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. of heavy boxes, books, equipment, etc., reach and kneel or squat to shelve books, and stand for extended periods of time.
• Ability to speak Spanish strongly preferred.
• High school diploma or GED with 1 to 2 years post-secondary education and training or experience in library science, liberal arts or related field preferred.

Criminal background check and drug screening required.

Pay: $15.00 per hour up to 21 hours per week.
