Join our team of innovative and passionate engineers and planners at Kimley-Horn in the Salt Lake City Valley! We are seeking a talented Environmental Planner with a focus on NEPA and noise to contribute to our growing team.

As an Environmental Planner at Kimley-Horn, you will have the opportunity to showcase your expertise by leading and managing all aspects of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) process for a variety of projects. With a minimum of 10 years of experience in NEPA planning and environmental consulting, you will play a crucial role in guiding projects through the complex regulatory process. This role also includes an opportunity to lead noise impact assessments with projects across the country.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the NEPA process: Plan, coordinate, and manage the entire NEPA process for a wide range of projects, including environmental assessments (EAs) and environmental impact statements (EISs).
• Conduct comprehensive environmental studies: Oversee field investigations, data collection, impact analysis, and the development of effective mitigation strategies.
• Ensure compliance and regulatory expertise: Stay up-to-date with federal, state, and local environmental regulations and guidelines, ensuring compliance throughout the NEPA process.
• Foster stakeholder collaboration: Engage with government agencies, community organizations, and project proponents to gather input, address concerns, and foster collaboration during the NEPA process.
• Project management: Effectively manage project schedules, budgets, and resources to ensure timely completion of NEPA documents and deliverables.
• Technical writing and review: Prepare and review high-quality NEPA documents, including environmental assessments, environmental impact statements, and other related reports, ensuring accuracy and adherence to regulatory requirements.
• Provide leadership and mentorship: Guide and mentor junior staff members, supporting their professional growth and development in NEPA planning.
• Facilitate public involvement: Conduct public meetings and engage with stakeholders to gather input and address concerns related to the NEPA process.
• Implement quality control processes: Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and quality of NEPA documents and deliverables through rigorous quality control measures.
• Stay current with industry trends: Continuously update your knowledge of NEPA regulations, guidelines, and best practices, applying this knowledge to project planning and execution.
• Conduct noise impact assessments for a variety of projects, including transportation infrastructure, industrial facilities, and commercial developments.
• Develop noise control strategies and recommend appropriate mitigation measures to minimize noise impacts.

• Bachelor's degree in environmental planning, environmental science, natural resources, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in NEPA planning and environmental consulting, with a proven track record of successfully managing and completing complex NEPA projects.
• In-depth knowledge of NEPA regulations, guidelines, and best practices, as well as federal and state environmental regulations.
• Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and allocate resources effectively.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare and review technical reports and effectively communicate complex environmental information to diverse stakeholders.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail and the ability to identify and mitigate potential environmental impacts.
• Experience in stakeholder coordination and public involvement processes, including facilitating public meetings and engaging with community organizations.
• Proficiency in using NEPA-related software and tools, such as GIS, environmental modeling software, and document management systems.
• Professional certifications, such as Certified Environmental Professional (CEP) or NEPA Certified Professional (NCP), are highly desirable.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, as well as independently with minimal supervision.
• Knowledge of noise control principles, regulations, and assessment methodologies. Proficiency in noise modeling software preferred.
