Director of Pharmacy

As the Director of Pharmacy, you will ensure compliance with state, federal and Joint Commission requirements regarding the handling of medications at Indian River Hospital and be responsible for the strategic planning of the department to assist in providing medication use that is safe, timely and cost-effective.  

A caregiver in this position works 7:30am – 4:00pm.  

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

• Be responsible for department planning and supervising all pharmacy personnel.  

• Participate in the preparation and monitoring of departmental budget, assuming leadership of drug expense portion .  

• Design systems to ensure the Pharmacy Department meets all existing standards.  

• Develop, implement, direct, and monitor pharmaceutical care services.  

• Design quality programs evaluating drug utilization and pharmacy services.  

• Evaluate efficiency and safety of pharmacy services.  

• Recommend programs to enhance performance while staying abreast of current trends.  

• Serve as the consultant pharmacist of records ensuring all laws, rules and regulations of the State of Florida and Florida Board of Pharmacy are enforced.  

Min imum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

• PharmD, Master of Science or Master of Business Administration (or in the process of obtaining ).  

• Current state licensure as a Registered Pharmacist (RPh).  

• Consultant pharmacist (PU) license upon hire or within six months of hire.  

• Three years of management or supervisory experience with direct reports.  

• 10 years in an equivalent role within a health system environment may substitute the advanced degree requirement.  

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

• Residency-trained.  

• Ability to navigate discussions clinically, operationally and financially.  

• Ability to make decisions based on the best information available and hold individuals accountable for outcomes.  

• Executive presence with strong emotional intelligence.
