Crane Operator – Full Training Provided | Build Skills & Advance Your Career

If you have experience in construction, heavy industry, or working around equipment—and you’re looking for a place that invests in your development—this is the role for you.

• Receive hands-on training to learn inventory locations, crane operation, and our color‑coded system.
• Shadow experienced trainers and assist with general housekeeping as you learn the workflow.
• Operate overhead cranes indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Pull steel beams, load flatbed trailers and railcars, and perform rigging tasks.
• Climb onto flatbeds as needed to secure loads safely.
• Receive and move materials using an overhead crane.
• Complete shipping paperwork, bills of lading, and documentation for outgoing loads.
• Work safely around flatbed trucks, rail systems, and heavy equipment.
• Cross-train for additional roles such as:
  • Saw or brake operator
  • Forklift operator
  • Steel bending machine / beam saw / cutter operator

• Experience in heavy industrial, construction, or similar environments.
• Ability to read a tape measure (testing or references may be used to verify).
• Willingness to learn and remember a color‑coded inventory system.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and safely operate equipment.
• Experience working around heavy machinery.
• Flexibility to train on day shift before moving to your assigned schedule.

• Overhead crane experience (industrial or military) is a strong plus.
• Experience in construction, fabrication, or other hands‑on trades.
• Comfort working in a construction‑like environment with PPE.

• Mix of indoor and outdoor work across two steel yards and a large warehouse.
• Conditions vary by season—hot summers, cold winters.
• Construction-style setting with gravel flooring and 200,000 sq. ft. of steel inventory.
• PPE required: hard hat, safety glasses, steel‑toed boots with metatarsals.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Petersburg, VA.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in Petersburg,VA.
