MSSU invites applications for a Theatrical Costume Designer in the Department of Theatre Arts. We seek a creative and experienced individual who is passionate about costume design and dedicated to fostering a hands-on learning environment for students. This adjunct position involves designing costumes for university theatre productions and teaching related courses.
Key Responsibilities:
* Design and create costumes for all departmental theatre productions, including but not limited to plays, musicals, and special events.
* Collaborate closely with directors, producers, and other production staff to ensure costume designs align with the vision and requirements of each production.
* Manage costume shop operations, including budgeting, purchasing, and maintaining costume inventory.
* Teach undergraduate courses in costume design, costume history, and related subjects.
* Mentor and guide students in practical and theoretical aspects of costume design.
* Stay current with industry trends and integrate contemporary practices into curriculum and production work.
* Participate in departmental meetings, curriculum development, and other academic activities as required.
Qualifications:
* MFA in Costume Design or related field preferred; significant professional experience may be considered in lieu of a terminal degree.
* Proven experience in theatrical costume design with a strong portfolio showcasing diverse and innovative designs.
* Prior teaching experience at the college or university level is highly desirable.
* Excellent communication, organizational, and collaborative skills.
* Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required by production schedules.
