Teaching Assistant Job Responsibilities:

  • Assists students with school resources
  • Escorts students to and from lunch, specials, and other activities
  • Shares responsibility for effective classroom operations and student management
  • Assists teachers in planning and executing instruction, encouraging student progress, and providing student behavior support
  • Fill in for teachers' absence, may be asked to carry out teaching duties
  • Reviews and carries out services and accommodations as outlined in students' Individual Education Plan (IEP) and Positive Behavior Intervention Plan (PBIP)
  • Required to receive Level I TA certification within 6 months with our assistance and tuition reimbursement

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • At least 21 years of age
  • Valid NYS Drivers License

Our school Grove St Academy is a NYSED Certified 853 special education school located on the campus of the Children's Home of Kingston in Kingston, NY. Grove St Academy provides necessary educational services for both day and residential students age range 8-21, grades 4th -12th. Grove Street Academy specializes in small classroom settings and utilizes project based learning on campus and in the community. We use a Trauma System Therapy approach throughout the campus and provide the students and their families with a system of support and interventions that are not available within the public education sectors.
