Job Description Job Overview Summer Youth Internship provides participants with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience while building valuable skills that will allow youth to explore career options by personalized learning experience. Youth Interns will learn and be exposed to a variety of tasks within Hillsborough County departments to gain valuable work experience and develop on-the-job skills.
Ideal Candidate Profile - 2.0 to 3.2 GPA state graduation requirement
- Junior or graduating senior (2025)
- Seeking a career path directly after graduating high school
Minimum Qualifications - Must be a Hillsborough County Public School student ; and
- Must have a minimum grade point average of 2.0; and
- Must submit the online application and provide required documentation at time of submission, including last report card and two (2) recommendation letters accepted from the following: teacher, guidance, success coach, parent, guardian, principal, or community leader; and
- Pass pre-employment background screenings; and
- Must be able to commit to an 8-week schedule; and
- Must have reliable transportation to/from worksite locations; and
- Applicants under 18 years of age must provide parental consent forms.

Work Categories/Physical Demands - Standing, walking, sitting, typing, bending, lifting up to approximately 20 pounds.
- Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg control requires exertion of forces greater than that of sedentary work and if the worker sits most of the time, the job is considered light work.
Duties and Responsibilities Youth interns will dedicate 40 hours per week to work assignments, performance management instruction and coaching, participation in structured tours, career development workshops, and peer networking sessions. Through this internship, the intern will:
- Learn about a variety of entry level careers within Hillsborough County.
- Develop knowledge and skills required on the job.
- Learn about the core functions and the essential services of the department selected.
- Work with a mentor on real world assignments.
- Attend weekly interactive tours and development courses.
- Perform other related duties as required.
