Job Description Nevada State University invites applications for the position of Peer Academic Success Coach. The mission of the Academic Success Center (ASC) is to provide academic guidance through FREE peer-to-peer support via tutoring, embedded course support, peer academic success coaching, and study/test-taking strategies for a variety of subject areas.
Peer Academic Success Coaches serve students in need of support - outside of course content - to create academic goals, build action plans, and develop strength-based skills and habits in order to support persistence/retention. Meeting with students one-on-one either weekly or bi-weekly peer academic success coaches will center the interactions around relationship building and goal setting to assess, identify, and build steps towards overcoming the student's obstacles and achieving their goals.
Peer Success Coaching is a great way to help others while learning more about academic support/learning theory, science-based study skills, planning and facilitating sessions, and teamwork.

Core Responsibilities: - Provide individualized academic success coaching sessions to students to assess their own performance and develop goal-oriented action plans.
- Assist students to develop and implement learning strategies and study skills specific to individual needs.
- Provide weekly outreach, check-ins, and relevant communication to address student questions, concerns, and needs.
- Document student interactions and attendance through tracking software.
- Support and advocate for the interest, needs, and rights for students at Nevada State in order to become academically successful.
- Coordinate with program staff and NS departments to improve student outcomes.
- Assist with marketing and advertising sessions to campus community.
- Assist with front desk coverage and customer service (answering phones, scheduling appointments, referrals, etc.).
- Participate in pre-semester training, ongoing training, and staff meetings (biweekly and monthly meetings).
Minimum Qualifications: - Have earned an GPA of 3.0 or better over the last 2 semesters OR a cumulative GPA of 3.0 at Nevada State.
- Must be enrolled as a degree seeking student with a minimum of 6 credits in which you will hold the position.
- Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship (Nevada State does not sponsor employment-related visas).

Preferred Qualifications: - Complete at least 1 year (2 semesters) at Nevada State.
- Ability to present oneself professionally and interact with others in a courteous and respectful manner.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions, learn and apply procedures and regulations.
- Ability to work and manage multiple duties, projects, and assignments while meeting established deadlines.
- Ability to work in a high-paced, noisy environment.
Work Hours: Student employees should expect to work 10-19.5 hours per week depending on student traffic/demand; flexible scheduling with work schedule to be arranged. Student employees can work up to 19.5 hours per week.
Hourly Rate: $14.00 per hour.
