We are an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion. Job Summary Position: Per Diem Spanish Interpreter. Schedule: Per Diem. Performs medical interpretation for clinical and non-clinical encounters to enable communication between patients, families who are limited English proficient and/or hearing impaired, and clinicians and hospital staff. Interpretation may be in person or by telephone in compliance with National Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics, hospital policies and Interpreter Services guidelines to ensure patient safety and access to quality care. Responsibilities Respond to requests effectively and promptly for face-to-face or telephone interpretations for all encounters throughout the hospital, with priority to emergency and urgent requests. Interpret and transmit accurately complex medical information from providers to patients and families, including consent forms, diagnoses, discharge plans, and other patient-related information; also interpret information from patients and families to providers. Assist patients and families professionally and courteously; refer to appropriate resources when needed. Serve as a resource to patients and providers to contribute to successful outcomes. Maintain an environment that promotes collaborative work relationships and assist other Interpreter Services personnel as needed. Accept and process interpreter requests (answer phones, log information, contact interpreters, and secure timely follow-up). Independently resolve issues, answer questions about protocols, and make referrals without direct supervision. Maintain complete and accurate records of services rendered for all encounters. Performs other related duties as required. Qualifications Associate degree preferred; High School Diploma or equivalent required. Training certificate is required; national certification (NBCMI, CCHI) preferred. Prior training in medical terminology and interpreting skills. Fluency in English (written and verbal) and Spanish required. Healthcare-related experience in direct patient contact. Knowledge of culture-specific care. Two years of healthcare-related experience in direct patient contact preferred. Strong ability to concentrate, attention to detail, cultural sensitivity, and accurate transmission of information. Strong linguistic and interpreting skills; strong interpersonal skills in difficult situations. Ability to follow directions with minimal supervision. High level of customer service and team-building.
