Job Description

Job Title: Senior Accountant

Reports To: Senior Director of Accounting and Administration

Department: Accounting and Administration

FLSA Status: Exempt

Salary: $90,000 - $105,000

Summary

Interfaces with all levels of LAEDC personnel, vendors, bankers, and funders. The Senior Accountant performs transaction-oriented accounting duties in a full accrual, fund-based accounting environment related to general ledger, reconciliations, month-end close and preparation of financial reports in Sage Intacct as well as assisting the Senior Director of Accounting and Administration with other projects. Perform under limited supervision a wide variety of financial tasks.

Duties
  • Manage general ledger activity, including but not limited to entering monthly journal entries, executing monthly closing of the general ledger, and reconciling general ledger accounts.
  • Be the primary fiscal contact for sub-recipients and funders; to ensure transactions are properly recorded and agree to the grant/contract agreement, while also ensuring sub-recipient/subcontract financial activities adhere to deliverable deadlines.
  • Oversee the cash receipts and cash disbursement functions, including ensuring timely and accurate processing of invoices and payments.
  • Review, monitor and oversee subsidiary reconciliations, including but not limited to cash/investment accounts, intercompany activity, and fixed assets.
  • Monitor accounting transactions for compliance with organizational policies and grant restrictions.
  • Assist in payroll process by preparing payroll, draft payroll and benefit journal entries and reconcile related reports and accounts.
  • Manage and process payments to vendor for LAEDC's 403b Retirement Plan; calculate all employer matching contributions in accordance to plan summary. Prepare and submit employee and employer contributions in accordance with IRS guidelines.
  • Monitor and reconcile employer retirement plan contributions.
  • Assist with Staff Accountant duties in their absence.
  • Maintain efficient electronic filing systems for financial records.
  • Assist with audit preparations.
  • Recommend and implement process improvements; maintain accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments to ensure financial transparency and accuracy.
  • Support with special projects and process improvements, and other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience: Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Ability:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Math Ability:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software; Spreadsheet software; Accounting software; Inventory software; Payroll systems; Internet software; Order processing systems; Database software and Contact Management systems. High level of experience and knowledge required of Excel spreadsheets. Experience with Sage 300 database software preferable.
