Job Description

The Safety Trainer is responsible for the training of all newly hired personnel as well as conducting recertification training, monthly safety meeting training, preparing and assisting with training presentations, and assisting with remedial training. The Safety Trainer will assist with creating and implementing training that ensures a safety first environment. Location: Hilo, HI. Responsibilities include training all new personnel on the Operator role duties with an emphasis on safety, reporting issues to location Leader, conducting retraining on policies and procedures, assisting location Leaders with training needs, reporting and recording incidents, monitoring recurrent training for compliance, maintaining communication with location Leaders, evaluating new-hire trainees and providing feedback, conducting training on electronic tablets for data communication and manifest use, monitoring daily training performance and attendance, supporting I-drive training initiatives, supporting customer complaint process with coaching or retraining, and other duties as assigned. Requirements include a high school diploma or G.E.D., valid driver’s license, 2+ years transportation training or teaching experience preferred, 1 year experience in transit operations, transit safety or teaching, advanced computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, good organizational skills, ability to work flexible hours, effective teaching abilities, ability to maintain confidentiality, and regular attendance. CDL license with passenger endorsement preferred.
