The Public Relations Officer (PRO) is responsible for promoting and maintaining a positive image of the organization in the media and to the public. This role is key to fostering strong relationships with stakeholders, including media outlets, donors, partners, and the community. The PRO will manage communications, media relations, public outreach, and ensure that the organization’s message aligns with its mission and values.
Responsibilities - Develop and maintain relationships with journalists, reporters, bloggers, and media outlets.
- Write and distribute press releases, media advisories, and other press materials.
- Coordinate media coverage of events, campaigns, and organizational news.
- Respond to media inquiries and manage interviews with key stakeholders.
- Ensure consistent messaging across all communication channels in line with the organization’s mission.
- Assist in managing the organization’s online and offline reputation.
- Monitor public perception and provide recommendations for improving image and outreach efforts.
- Write engaging content for press releases, newsletters, social media posts, and the organization’s website.
- Create and implement communication strategies to support fundraising campaigns, events, and programs.
- Design and oversee the production of promotional materials like brochures, newsletters, and annual reports.
- Develop and execute community outreach campaigns to raise awareness about the organization’s initiatives.
- Coordinate partnerships and collaborations with local organizations, influencers, and advocates.
- Represent the organization at events, conferences, and public forums.
- Manage communication during crises or negative events, ensuring consistent and accurate messaging.
- Assist leadership in creating crisis communication strategies to protect the organization’s image.
- Track media coverage and prepare reports to evaluate the effectiveness of PR campaigns.
- Assess public opinion and provide feedback to senior management to adjust strategies as necessary.
Requirements - Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in public relations, preferably in the non-profit sector.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in media outreach and relationship-building.
- Familiarity with social media platforms and digital marketing tools.
- Excellent organizational and project management abilities.
- Passion for the organization’s mission and values.
Preferred Qualifications - Experience in crisis communication and reputation management.
- Proficiency in graphic design or video editing software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite).
- Knowledge of the non-profit sector and its unique PR needs.
- Bilingual or multilingual abilities are a plus.
