Summary of Job


The bookmobile library assistant is responsible for driving and operating the bookmobile along with a wide variety of library services including daily circulation functions, programming and assisting patrons. Applications will be accepted until position is filled.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Performs circulation desk procedures, such as checking in and checking out materials, and putting away materials on the bookmobile and in the library.
• Provides reference and general assistance.
• Performs all driving and non-driving duties associated with the bookmobile including loading and unloading carts, inventory, stocking and staffing.
• Provides information and recommendations that can be used for material selection.
• Keeps a record of patron requests for materials not currently in the library.
• Processes, withdraws, repairs, or reconditions library materials.
• Shelves library materials and checks shelves for accuracy.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Computer knowledge is preferred.
• Library experience is preferred.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Provides reader's advisory and social interaction with patrons at all stops.
• Shelves books.
• Reads shelves and puts books in order.
• Performs inventory of books and materials at the end of each shift.
• Pulls books for new spine labels.
• Keeps familiar with upcoming programs and schedules on the bookmobile and the library.
• Promotes library programming.
• Keeps the bookmobile clean and orderly; including sweeping, dusting, organizing and general cleaning duties.
