Painter

Snow & Company is seeking an experienced Painter to join our team in our fast-paced, family-owned shipyard. This position is responsible for completing daily painting needs in the shipyard as well as in our office spaces. This position will also assist as needed with the day-to-day maintenance and minor repair of facility systems and equipment.

 

Typical Daily Tasks :

This list is meant to represent the general duties for this position and does not include every specific task that may be asked of the employee

  • Measures area to be painted; determines quantity and type of paint to use for the project.
  • Identifies and orders appropriate paint colors and finishes, mixing if needed.
  • Prepares surfaces to be painted, which may include removing prior finishes through chemicals, grit blast, or other methods.
  • Masks, removes, covers, or otherwise protects furniture, hardware, trim, and other nonpainted surfaces.
  • Applies paint to interior and exterior surfaces using brushes, rollers, sprayers, airbrushes, stencils, and other tools.
  • Performs basic stencil and line work, which may include painting lines on factory floors, parking lots, and other surfaces.
  • May apply wallpaper, specialty finishes, and glazes.
  • Complies with chemical and waste storage and disposal regulations and best practices.
  • Maintains a clean work area.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Basic Qualifications :

  • Must have 5+ years of professional painting experience
  • Must have a general familiarity with tools and paints
  • Well organized with attention to detail
  • Effective communication skills
  • Punctual with high attendance rate
  • Must be willing and able to support a safe work environment
  • Works well independently and as a team
  • Chemical compound knowledge

 

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow instructions and provide consistent work.
  • Experience working with maintenance and manufacturing personnel is a plus

Physical Requirements :

Work is conducted in a dynamic, fast-paced shipyard with moderate to loud noise levels from production activity in the shipyard. The individual will be required to be in production areas in yard and onboard vessels. He/she must be able to walk to and from job sites. The person must be able to climb inclined stairways and vertical ladders; to enter confined areas and tanks; to work at heights. He/she may be required to work more than 8-hour shifts and weekends. The incumbent must be able to frequently bend, squat, crawl, twist and may be required to lift up to 50 pounds.

Snow & Company:

We are a leading boatbuilder and ship repair company in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle. We build commercial vessels for the fishing industry, government agencies, tugboat operators, aquaculture companies and other marine businesses. Additionally, we perform overhauls and repairs to vessels. Located on the ship canal we have modern enclosed fabrication halls along with waterfront repair facilities.
