Job Summary:

The Organizational Development and Wellbeing Program Manager for the University of Wisconsin-Madison Police Department is responsible for overseeing and coordinating a range of employee education and development programming for the Division for new and current employees. The development and execution of programming is focused on fostering the education of a culture of mental, emotional, physical, and relational wellbeing. This includes managing physical and mental wellness programs, employee affinity groups, and various support programs.


The Organizational Development and Wellbeing Program Manager plays a key role in developing, implementing, and evaluating these programs and policies, ensuring they align with organizational goals and support the overall health and professional development of employees.


The role requires strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills to engage and collaborate with key stakeholders internal and external to the Division.

Responsibilities:

Implements education and training and assists with the development and coordination of organizational learning programs to support and enhance the knowledge and skills of all employees. Facilitates training sessions, serves as a point of contact to new employees, and may supervise staff.
  • 15% Implements an education system for a variety of staff and partners, including planning and scheduling orientation, an education curriculum for on-the-job training based on role, and a mentorship program
  • 5% Establishes competencies for main job functions for new and existing employees within the unit
  • 20% Implements an ongoing training series incorporating feedback from a variety of documents and information
  • 5% Serves as the point of contact to new employees for training and certification activities and ensures compliance with mandatory training for new and ongoing staff
  • 20% Facilitates training sessions covering a variety of relevant topics
  • 10% Assists with education of and documentation creation for policies, procedures, tutorials, guidance, and supplemental forms
  • 5% May exercise supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 FTE or equivalent employees
  • 15% Designs, manages, and tracks department wellness initiatives to promote all aspects of employee wellbeing.
  • 5% Required to work special events and assignments as identified by the Division.

Tasks:

  • Wellbeing Programs Management: Oversee and coordinate physical and mental wellness initiatives, including developing strategies and education to promote employee health, reduce stress, and prevent burnout.
  • Support Programs Coordination: Manage the Peer Support, UWPD Family Program, and Mentor Programs, ensuring that resources and services are available to support employees' personal and professional needs.
  • Affinity Groups: Facilitate the creation, engagement, and growth of employee affinity groups that promote employee engagement within the workforce.
  • Functional Fitness Program: Oversee the Police Officer Functional Fitness Program, supporting officers in maintaining physical condition needed for their jobs.
  • Program Evaluation & Reporting: Regularly assess the effectiveness of programs through feedback and data analysis, and recommend improvements to leadership based on findings.
  • Collaboration & Outreach: Work closely with department leaders, external partners, and community stakeholders to ensure programs are aligned with UWPD's mission and employee needs.

Education:

Preferred, Bachelor's Degree

Preferred, Master's degree or higher in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or a closely related field

Qualifications:

Required:

  • At least 2 years of experience administering programs focused on mental, physical, and/or emotional wellbeing.
  • Experience with managing employee engagement, education, and wellbeing initiatives and programs.
  • Demonstrated leadership in advancing programs within a complex organization, including championing policies and initiatives that foster an inclusive and wellness culture
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills, with proven ability to collaborate with diverse groups of employees and stakeholders across all levels of an institution
  • Strong track record of building, leading, and facilitating successful wellbeing, engagement, as well as working across departments to achieve strategic goals
  • Demonstrated capacity for program development, administration and evaluation
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Strong problem-solving abilities
  • Demonstrated experience working both independently and collaboratively
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, including ability to leverage internal and external relationships to achieve goals
  • Strong MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint) and other Internet/Intranet applications
  • Collaborative team player with a strong customer service orientation and drive to create a positive work environment
  • Experience working with vendors and applicable service contract providers.
Preferred:

  • Additional qualifications/certifications in a related field (mental health counseling, clinical psychology, etc...)
  • Strong understanding of psychological theories, concepts, and practices related to first responder trauma
  • Experience working in or with a sworn law enforcement or military-type organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate education and discussions across differences, exhibiting sound emotional intelligence
  • Strong project management and problem-solving capabilities and ability to manage multiple work streams
  • Great communicator who can quickly build trust and strong working relationships with internal and external partners and vendors
  • Desire to drive positive change; demonstrated ability to be highly organized, and strong strategy and execution capabilities
