Job Description

The Nurse Educator is responsible for assisting with the professional development of members of the Nursing Department as well as the implementation of programs to improve the quality of care delivered. Demonstrates an ongoing commitment to lifelong learning and the application of research and best practice evidence into the clinical setting. The Nurse educator will work at our Corporate office in Crown Point, Indiana when not fulfilling position-related travel obligations.

Responsibilities:

• Develop education programs in response to staff needs and teaches staff current accepted patient care and GuideStar practices.
• Incorporate evidence-based research into educational plans, patient treatment plans, and nursing practices
• Implements education on new process, equipment and policies
• Serve as a mentor to nurses, and identify growth opportunities and educational needs for practicing nurses
• Promote critical thinking and commitment to professional development and lifelong learning
• Undertake evaluation, audit of clinical services, and provide reports as required.
• Participate in data gathering, workflow documentation and process/practice redesign efforts.
• Conduct audits of staff training records to ensure compliance with governing guidelines.
• Facilitates and supports change through effective communication with associates and management.
• Participates in committees, task forces and strategic planning meetings.
• Maintain current knowledge of trends in area of expertise

Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) with Prescriptive Authority preferred.
• Must possess current valid license as a registered nurse in the state of practice
• 3-5 years’ experience working as a registered nurse in a clinical setting
• Previous experience in a teaching setting preferred
• Must possess valid basic life support (BLS) certification
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Exceptional interpersonal skills
• Travel obligations include traveling to multiple states (IN, OH, MI, KY, TX, TN) and occasional over-night travel
