Job Summary
Position Summary: Assist providers with efficient patient flow while maintaining high standards of care, perform a variety of general patient care responsibilities to include, but not limited to: measuring/recording vital signs, collecting specimens, and administering injections. Accompanies provider in room and documents clinical information, laboratory results, prescription refills, procedures, billing information and any other documentation, all directed by the provider. Administrative tasks include answering phones, maintaining provider schedules, ordering supplies, and performing other administrative duties. Essential Functions: Clinical Practice Provides assistance and preparation prior to and during examination by health care providers. Works as a collaborative member of the clinical team to ensure quality services and patient safety. Tasks: Prepares examination/treatment rooms for examinations of patients by properly positioning instruments, equipment and supplies. Interviews patient to obtain reason(s) for visit such as nature of complaint, physical problems, symptoms of illness, etc. Prepares patient for examination by performing various routine physical assessments such as vital signs, height, weight, blood pressure, etc. Prepares and assists health care provider during examination and procedures. Maintains logs for refrigerator temperature (medications and specimens), weekly exam room cleaning and quality control point of care testing on equipment as needed. Maintains timely monitoring and documentation (tracking) of provider ordered lab test, radiology, ultrasound, etc. if requested. Performs point of care testing according to practice protocols and follows OSHA guidelines in obtaining and handling specimens. Administers medication by oral, intramuscular or subcutaneous routes under provider orders. Performs diagnostic testing to include, but not limited to EKG, phlebotomy, and laboratory testing. As a designated agent of the provider, relays prescription information to pharmacies
Educational Requirements:
1-3 years experience as an MA/Scribe
