Job Description and Duties

Under the direct supervision of the Staff Services Manager I (SSMI), the Special Investigator Assistant (SIA) plays a crucial role in the arrest-only investigation process, handling routine investigative tasks and providing key support in the investigation of referable crimes. This work is essential to the background check process, ensuring the thorough and timely handling of Arrest-Only cases while upholding safety and compliance standards.

Applicants with knowledge of CCLD licensing laws, regulations and procedures, background check case management system, Licensing Information System (LIS), and the ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and other common software programs are highly desirable and will be given priority consideration. Working Conditions

• This position requires a fingerprint clearance by the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI).

• The Care Provider Management Branch exercises a hybrid work schedule as determined by the Department of Social Services. This is subject to change based on business needs.


This position may be eligible for hybrid telework under California Government Code Section 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California. All telework schedules are subject to change and may be reevaluated at any time. Specific telework arrangements may be discussed in more detail with the respective hiring manager. Telework does not change the terms and conditions of employment, the essential functions of job duties, or required compliance with the Department of Social Services policies.  Please note, if this position is being advertised in multiple locations, the headquarter location will be designated based on the selected candidate's primary residence location, and/or the closest CDSS location.

The Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) serves as documentation of each candidate's ability to present information clearly and concisely in writing. Application packets without an SOQ, or with an SOQ that does not follow the required format specified below, will be regarded as incomplete and will not be reviewed for further consideration in the hiring process.


The SOQ should not be more than two pages, using Arial, 12-point font size. The two prompts listed below must be clearly restated before your response:

• Describe your experience in balancing multiple priorities and meeting timelines/due dates.

• Please describe a time when you had to gather information from multiple sources and provide a written analysis or recommendation.


You are required to complete employment history on the application form (STD 678). You may be disqualified from the hiring and selection process if the employment history is not complete. Resumes will not take the place of employment history. 

If you are meeting minimum qualifications with education, you must include your unofficial transcripts for verification. If selected, you may be required to provide official transcripts at the time of hire. 

Training and Development assignments may be considered based on the availability of eligible candidates and are subject to approval by the Hiring Authority prior to appointment. Training and Development assignments are temporary in nature and shall not exceed twenty-four (24) months. 

Candidates who reside outside of the State of California may be admitted to the job interview, but they must provide proof of residence in California prior to being eligible for appointment.
