Job Title: Financial Analyst

Location: Richland WA

Type: Contract (6 months, potential extension)

Pay Range: $37 – $58/hour, depending on experience

Schedule: 4x10s (4 days × 10 hours)

Remote Work: Not available

Description

The Financial Analyst will provide financial guidance and analytical support within the Finance Department. This role includes system administration and development (on-line journal entry, general ledger, property, etc.), planning and analysis of complex financial issues such as fuel transactions, taxes, debt issuances/refinancing, and other special projects. Responsibilities also include budgeting and monitoring for employee benefits, debt service, depreciation, overhead allocations, maintaining project ledgers, and preparing monthly and annual financial reports, surveys, financial statements, and tax certifications. Familiarity with annual financial close processes and compliance/audit processes is required.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Provide specialized accounting support for financial systems (on-line journal entry, general ledger, etc.) and supporting databases (budget, cost accounting, inventory, asset management, travel, payroll).
  • Apply knowledge of accounting principles and GASB pronouncements to systems.
  • Prepare monthly and annual financial statements, reports, tax certifications, and surveys in compliance with GAAP and state/federal laws.
  • Analyze accounting trends and budget variances; design reports and disclosures based on accounting knowledge.
  • Research and analyze special financial issues (refunds, tax issues, nuclear fuel transactions, workers’ compensation, inventory, property management).
  • Assist in developing financial strategies.
  • Maintain ledgers for all facilities in compliance with FERC and GAAP; prepare reconciliations and journal entries.
  • Assist with preparing and updating financial policies and procedures in the Finance Manual.
  • Interface with internal managers/supervisors and external agencies.

Required Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field (with Accounting emphasis) plus 6 years’ experience;
  • OR Associate’s degree plus 8 years’ experience in accounting, auditing, and/or finance;
  • OR High School diploma/equivalent plus 12 years’ experience.
  • Progressively responsible experience with monthly and financial closing processes, compliance, and financial audits.

Desired Education & Certifications

  • CPA or CMA preferred.

Required Abilities & Skills

  • Strong knowledge of financial/accounting concepts, GAAP, and state/federal tax laws.
  • Advanced PC skills with financial software and tools.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills; ability to adapt methods as needed.
  • Ability to work with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills; able to propose multiple solutions.
  • Ability to assess challenges and escalate appropriately.

Desired Abilities & Skills

  • Familiarity with ERP systems and nuclear accounting issues.
  • Knowledge of Passport and/or PeopleSoft.
  • Leadership ability to maximize team performance.
