Job Summary JRM is seeking an EHS Manager who is passionate about improving safety in the construction industry and assists the EHS Director by providing a safe work environment for staff and construction projects. The candidate should offer strong leadership skills, and have knowledge and proven results in building programs, and safety cultures within an organization. They should also effectively communicate and work closely with job site teams, subcontractors, local authorities, and others to ensure that safety standards and performance expectations are met.
Responsibilities and Duties - Engage with Project Directors and Estimators during preconstruction phases to determine constructability methods that will promote increased hazard recognition and eliminate/reduce potential hazards for project scopes of work that will minimize risks
- Read and interpret specifications and plans to determine requirements and planning procedures
- Conduct and participate in safety and subcontractor kick off and progress meetings
- Coordinate and provide direction, training, and mentorship for onsite construction teams and internally to implement effective safety processes
- Provides managerial oversight for regionalized loss control, staff manages consistency on jobsites, ensures collaboration, and measures efficiency
- Ensure that accidents, injuries, near misses/good catches, and other events are captured, and the data is managed and reported. Manage the OSHA 301/300 recordkeeping requirements
- Review Subcontractors Health and Safety Program and Job Hazard Analysis
- Track the implementation of effective corrective actions, and prepare communications to share the lessons learned from such events across operations
- Review current and proposed safety, health and environmental regulations, standards, and guidance for impact at the site.
- Guide and promote safe work performance by developing and enforcing safety policies, implementing safety campaigns, and training supervisors and employees in EH&S practices.
- Assist EH&S Director with all safety initiatives and policies to enhance company safety performance and culture
- Assist EH&S Director by inspecting projects for appropriate safety measures
- Track safety certifications for employees
- Develop, update, maintain, and track internal safety-related statistics.
- Assist with the review of Occupant Protective Plan /Tenant Protection Plan for new projects
- Travels to job sites both in and out of state
Qualifications and Skills - Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety and/or at least 5 years of experience managing safety efforts of commercial construction projects
- Excellent communication, organizational, decision-making, and problem-solving skills required
- Ability to perform various safety functions on-site, including managing/administering safety orientations, overseeing substance abuse programs and investigating/reporting injuries/illnesses/near misses
- Ability to climb permanent and temporary stairs and ladders and general navigation of an area under construction
- Capable of regularly working onsite at the construction jobsite; being exposed to loud/heavy operating construction machinery, and being comfortable with differing outside weather conditions
- Prior experience and ability to work with all construction groups: management, owners, trades, and subcontractors
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- OSHA 500 certification preferred
- Flexibility to work nights and/or weekends, if needed
Computer Systems - Excellent computer literacy including experience with Microsoft Office product applications (ex. Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
