Salary Information: Starting base salary is $30.39 per hour ($63,218 annually). Upon completion of the probationary period, the wage increases to $33.77 per hour ($70,250 annually) based on the current collective bargaining agreement.

Department Overview:
The Brook Park Police Department provides a wide range of services to residents. With a team of 35 full-time officers and support staff, the department emphasizes community programs that promote safety and well-being. Officers work 12-hour shifts, with one 8-hour day in a 2-week pay period. The department offers specialized programs such as motorcycle patrols, a Ride-a-long program, bicycle patrols, auxiliary police, and a K-9 unit, ensuring residents receive the high-quality service they expect from law enforcement professionals.
Area Information:
Brook Park is a safe, diverse, and progressive community located approximately 9 miles south of Cleveland, Ohio. It borders Cleveland's Hopkins International Airport to the south and east and is situated in Cuyahoga County.

Job Requirements:
Age: 21 at the time of hire; no more than 35 years old if an original appointment.
Citizenship: Required.
High School Grad/GED: Required.
Valid Ohio Driver's License: Required (Out-of-state candidates must obtain an Ohio license).
Ability to Read/Speak English: Required.
Academy Certification: Not required; however, preference is given to candidates who are state-certified Peace Officers at the time of appointment.
Minimum Score: 70% average on the examination.
Hiring Process:
Candidates must achieve an average score of 70% to be placed on the eligibility list. The selection process includes a detailed background check, a physical agility test conducted by Tri-C, and the completion of a detailed application. After a conditional offer of employment, candidates must pass a psychological exam and medical drug screen. Applicants without an academy certification will be sent to the academy at the City's expense and will be paid the base salary during training.
Specific Disqualifiers/Behaviors:
Felony Convictions: Any felony conviction will disqualify a candidate.
Driving Disqualifiers: Alcohol and/or drug-related driving convictions do not automatically disqualify a candidate but may be a factor in the hiring decision, depending on the circumstances and time since the conviction. Candidates must be insurable under the City's liability insurance standards.
Drug Use Disqualifiers: Prior drug use does not automatically disqualify a candidate but will be considered in the hiring decision based on the circumstances. Current drug use will disqualify a candidate.
Additional Credit:
Military Service: Applicants who have completed one year or more of active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces and have been honorably discharged will receive a 5% credit added to their basic exam score. To receive military credit, candidates must upload their Form DD-214.
Residency: Applicants who have lived in the City of Brook Park for at least one year will receive a 3% extra credit, verified by the Brook Park tax department.
Education: Applicants with a Bachelor's degree in a police-related field (e.g., Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice) from an accredited institution will receive a 4% bonus of the top patrolman's salary annually. Those with an Associate's degree in a police-related field will receive a 2% bonus annually. The maximum additional credit is 10%.
