We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Controller to join our growing team. This role is critical to our organization as you will be responsible for the accuracy and integrity of all financial accounting and reporting. You will be a part of a fast-paced, energetic, and high-performance team that is committed to delivering high-quality services to our clients. Responsibilities:
As a Controller, you will:
1. Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
2. Maintain internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, and program budgets and actual expenditures.
3. Coordinate all audit activity.
4. Consistently analyze financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; monitor progress and changes and keep senior leadership abreast of the organization’s financial status.
5. Assist leadership in the annual budgeting and planning process; administer and review all financial plans and compare to actual results with a view to identify, explain, and correct variances as appropriate.
6. Support the CFO in engaging the board’s audit and finance committees around issues and trends in financial operating models and delivery.
7. Oversee all financial, project/program, and grants accounting; ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and program budgets throughout the grant/fund period.
8. Manage organizational cash flow forecasting by working in partnership with the program vice presidents; continuously collaborate with program vice presidents to assess the financial efficacy of program operations and establish finance and administrative systems to support program operations.
9. Manage and track the performance of invested assets in keeping with policies and investment guidelines.
Qualifications:
To be successful in this role, you will need:
1. Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, or Finance; CPA or MBA preferred.
2. 5+ years of accounting and financial management experience, with experience overseeing the finance function of a high-growth company.
3. Advanced knowledge of accounting and reporting software.
4. Experience in partnering with an executive team, with a high level of written and oral communication skills.
5. Exceptional leadership capabilities with a track record in driving team performance.
6. Excellent analytical, reasoning, and problem-solving skills.
7. Significant experience in or knowledge of nonprofit accounting, including sophisticated fund and grant accounting, compliance, and reporting.
8. Demonstrated excellence in managing finance, accounting, budgeting, control, and reporting.
9. Skilled in examining, developing, reengineering, and recommending financial, HR, and technology policies and procedures.
10. Ability to translate financial concepts and to effectively collaborate with programmatic and fundraising colleagues who do not necessarily have finance backgrounds.
11. A track record in grants management as it relates to compliance and reporting of government, corporate, and foundation grants is essential.
12. Technologically savvy, with an ability to point to examples of having worked with IT staff to develop and implement new processes and systems that increased efficiency in a fast-moving environment.
13. Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to the company’s mission.
14. Strong interpersonal and communication skills; experience in effectively communicating key data, including presentations to senior management, board, or other outside partners.
15. Flexibility and ability to multitask; can work within an ambiguous, fast-moving environment, while also driving toward clarity and solutions.
