Position Description Wildlife Habitat Councils (WHC) Consultant, Business & Biodiversity works under the supervision of the Senior Consultant, Business & Biodiversity to support and provide technical advice to corporate teams developing new and existing conservation programs, to support the improvement and maintenance of ongoing certified programs, and to contribute to the technical knowledge of the organization. This role provides the unique opportunity to provide direct guidance to site-based corporate teams while supporting and coordinating various efforts across the assigned WHC department. This role requires an independent and motivated professional who is comfortable working on multiple projects with cross functional teams in a fast-paced environment.
Specific Responsibilities Support teams seeking first-time or renewal WHC Certification by providing technical support and guidance under a variety of scopes
and scales, through various means including but not limited to regular meetings, one-off phone calls, emails, etc.
Serve as a point of contact for applicants with questions about Conservation Certification and the WHC Conservation Certification website
Provide scheduled support to applicants including outreach to contacts regarding program progress and outcomes
Participate in the further development of the certification standard, when relevant
Support writing proposals and technical reports through research and utilizing technical expertise
Develop and deliver conservation, employee engagement, STEM education, community outreach and program building recommendations.
Contribute technical expertise as needed across departments
Work collaboratively on internal initiatives
Maintain efficient processes to meet goals and objectives
Play a role in efforts to grow networks of community and/or corporate partners and experts
Collaborate, prepare and participate in external facing events such as WHC webinars and Conservation Conference
Maintain records of external communications and internal meetings
Other duties as assigned
Skills & Qualifications Undergraduate degree in a natural science field (e.g., wildlife management, ecology, natural resources, etc.)
A minimum of 1-2 years of work experience required, preferably in a related field
Knowledge of multiple ecosystems in the United States and abroad
Knowledge of biodiversity concepts and their application across geographies
Excellent written and verbal communication skills (with strong preference given to native Spanish language skills)
Computer skills must include MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), with CRM experience a plus
Excellent organization skills and attention to detail with ability to multi-task and prioritize competing priorities
Interest in global/international Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) trends
Ability to work independently, be a self-starter, and have an entrepreneurial and problem-solving attitude
Customer service-oriented attitude
Ability to mirror WHCs values and associated competencies internally and externally
Work Environment The position is included in WHCs dispersed workforce plan, providing the employee a choice to work out of the organizations Bethesda, MD office or from home. This position can require irregular work hours. Travel (up to 20%) for internal events (staff retreats, WHC Conservation Conference, or similar) and client-related meetings is expected.
This position includes some light physical work. The employee should be able to lift up to 20 lbs. and can expect frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 lbs. The employee may also be standing, sitting, or walking for prolonged periods of time. They can expect frequent bending, typing, and kneeling, and will complete frequent visual inspections. The employee is occasionally climbing, crouching, crawling, or stooping.
The employee is very occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions including the extreme cold (temperatures below 32oF for more than one hour). The employee is very occasionally exposed to extreme noise sufficient to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level. The employee may be subject to hazards including moving mechanical parts, electrical current, working on scaffolding in high places, exposure to extreme heat, chemicals, oils, solvents, asbestos, or radiation. Safety briefing and/or training will be provided in such cases.
