At the heart of this transformation are Schwab’s Central Landing Zone (CLZ) and Schwab Analytics Tenant Platform (SATP), two foundational Cloud platforms enabling firmwide data ingestion, processing, and both enterprise and business-driven analytics on Google Cloud. As a Cloud Platform Engineer in Schwab Data organization, you will play a key role in designing, optimizing, and securing these platforms while ensuring they are scalable, high-performing, and cost-efficient. This is an exciting multidisciplinary Cloud engineering position requiring specialization in Google BigQuery, and deep expertise in platform engineering, automation, and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) to manage enterprise-scale data workloads with operational excellence. You will collaborate with Cloud engineers, architects, security, and technology teams to build and maintain a high-performance cloud data infrastructure that empowers business teams to unlock sights at scale. Responsibilities & Job Duties Cloud Data Platform Administration & Engineering Administer & optimize BigQuery for enterprise-scale workloads, ensuring cost-efficiency, performance, and security Dedicated SME oversight for Platform Governance, Access Management, Performance Management, Workload Management. Resiliency, and Vulnerability Management Engineer cloud infrastructure for CLZ & SATP using Terraform and automation frameworks Manage Google Cloud services including but not limited to BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Cloud Composer, Cloud Run, and IAM to enable scalable data workflows Automation and Performance Optimization Automate platform operations with Python, Terraform, and CI/CD pipelines Optimize query performance & governance using partitioning, clustering and slot-based pricing models Facilitate implementation of self-service data capabilities tooling to streamline data access and analytics workflows Platform Governance, Security & Reliability Enforce data access management and platform management policies across CLZ & SATP Ensure platform resiliency via backup, disaster recovery, and high-availability strategies Monitor and troubleshoot platform issues using Schwab-aligned Google tooling Collaboration & Continuous Improvement Partner with engineering teams to implement best practices for cloud-based platform data management Support platform Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) and production operations by resolving incidents and optimizing infrastructure health Lead/collaborate proofs-of-concept, product evaluations by engaging with Google Product Owners/Support Engineers Supervision & MentorshipProvide guidance and technical oversight to junior engineers and vendor staff, ensuring high-quality execution and fostering professional growth within the team. What you have Required qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field. 8+ years of engineering experience in Database Administration or Platform Engineering 4+ years in Google BigQuery (or Snowflake or QWS Redshift) administration including query tuning, performance optimization, cost governance, security controls (IAM, Row-Level Security, Column Encryption) Strong expertise in Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform) & automation Experience with workflow orchestration (Cloud Run, Cloud Composer, Apache Airflow) Proficiency in Python & Bash for scripting and automation Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines (Github, Bitbucket, Bamboo, Jenkins) Deep understanding of cloud data security, compliance and access management best practices Cloud Service lifecycle management experience including platform upgrades, vulnerability management, and disaster recovery exercise execution Preferred qualifications: Work experience in highly regulated financial technology-driven companies What’s in it for you At Schwab, we’re committed to empowering our employees’ personal and professional success.
