Job Description

The Clinical Student Intern of Mental Health Services provides a range of prevention and intervention services to children, youth, and families which encourage individual growth and promote constructive relationships. They assist with concerns including but not limited to mental health, trauma/exposure to violence, peer relationships, educational goals, youth employment, and family education/support.

Reports To: Clinical Supervisor (Internship)

Schedule: Flexible start time weekdays 9:00AM to 6:00PM for a total of 16-24 hours per week

essential duties

Clinical Services Tasks

  1. Provide evidence-based and culturally responsive therapeutic interventions and services to youth and their families.
  2. Provide individual and family sessions and demonstrate proficiency in short term clinical work with clients.
  3. Learn/review crisis intervention best practices and provide crisis support to assigned clients, as needed.
  4. Assist in the development of and co-lead therapeutic groups with a licensed clinical team member.
  5. Maintain direct service hours at 50% of total weekly internship/practicum hours.

Administrative Tasks

  1. Attend weekly individual meetings with Clinical Supervisor to review cases.
  2. Participate in employee case consultations and division meetings.
  3. Ensure learning goals and education requirements are discussed with Clinical Supervisor at the beginning of each academic quarter/semester.
  4. Maintain case records in an accurate and timely manner per all WAC, COA, Medicaid and King County requirements.
  5. Maintain effective communication with Clinical Supervisor about schedule changes, vacations, or leave and assist with identifying client coverage as needed.
  6. Submit evaluation forms as required by graduate program and review with Clinical Supervisor each academic quarter/semester.
  7. Become familiar with agency and community resources for children, youth, and families.

job requirements

a. Education and Experience

  1. Currently enrolled in a master’s degree program in counseling or related field.
  2. Previous graduate coursework in counseling.
  3. Bachelor’s degree in a human services field.
  4. Previous work experience with children, youth, and/or young adults preferred.

  4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  5. Knowledge of coping skills, crisis intervention, and supportive strategies for individuals experiencing homelessness and trauma.
  6. Strong group process and facilitation skills.
  7. Able to communicate effectively with a wide range of professionals.
  8. Able to maintain strong personal and professional boundaries.
  9. Proficient skill set with Microsoft Office programs.
