Chemical Process Engineer Location Katy, TX :
Job Title: Process Engineer : Reports To: : Lead Chemical Engineer General Description: : The Process Engineer is responsible for developing process solutions and conducting market analysis for new chemical products in the areas of oxygenated chemicals and other specialty chemicals. Serve as a contributing member of both the R&D and Operations teams, working collaboratively to address engineering challenges. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: : - Develop preliminary process design concepts, including process simulations, reactor modeling, reactor kinetics modeling, product separation, and material balances for new technology based on preliminary yield and performance estimates from laboratory and pilot plant tests.
- Utilize commercial process simulation software (such as UniSim, Aspen, etc.) to establish the basis for the evaluation and optimization of design concepts.
- Provide input to the program team to ensure that the proper process setups, data collection, and analysis are being conducted to meet the project's requirements.
- Perform preliminary market analysis of the product and make recommendations for the new technology.
- Identify and engage external vendors effectively to generate preliminary designs and cost estimates for specialized equipment.
- Initiate process conceptualization and development on a bench scale.
- Identify novel design concepts and author invention disclosures to contribute to the innovation efforts at the Joint Research Center.
- Participate in all team safety activities and conduct all work with a high degree of attention to safety.
- Contribute to team effort and promote teamwork across interfaces to achieve objectives.
- Present technical results to internal stakeholders (SINOPEC and UOP), as well as at external conferences.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES: : - Strong understanding of chemical engineering fundamentals, including fluid dynamics, heat transfer, mass transfer, and reaction engineering, as well as their application in the design of process equipment.
- Experience with process simulation, reactor modeling, and reactor kinetics modeling.
- Proficiency in process engineering, including the use of commercial process simulation software (such as UniSim and Aspen) to develop heat and material balances, using AutoCAD to develop process flow diagrams (PFDs), and formulating process design specifications.
- Experience in developing processing data from micro testing systems and larger-scale pilot plant equipment.
- Capability to perform Technical Economic Analysis (TEA) for new technology and commercial chemical manufacturing is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with a strong focus on delivering results and identifying alternative solutions when challenges arise.
- Proven strong analytical skills in problem-solving.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to ensure all aspects of projects are clearly understood and well documented.
- Good interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to work well in a team.
- Ability to travel up to 10% on an annual basis.
MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION, CREDENTIALS, LICENSES and EXPERIENCE: : - Minimum BS degree in Chemical Engineering is required. PhD in Chemical Engineering is preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a Technology, Engineering, Research & Development, or Technical Service role within the refining, petrochemical, or gas processing industries is required.
- Must be legally eligible to work in the United States.
