Buyer
The Buyer is responsible for placing and managing purchase orders for our Elmira Operations. This position monitors the purchasing process to assist multiple departments in providing timely and accurate product deliveries. The Buyer is also responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with suppliers to ensure the continuous flow of materials for the production process.
The requirements for this position are as follows:
EDUCATION:
Associates degree in Business, Operations Management, or Supply Chain or equivalent required, Bachelor’s degree preferred. CPIM or CSCP certification a plus. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and Outlook required.
EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of two years of experience in a supply chain role purchasing, planning, and/or scheduling is required. Experience in a machine manufacturing setting is preferred. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills. Experience with JD Edwards is highly preferred. Must have strong problem solving and analytical skills.
SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE:
Utilize timelines, quantity requirements, and shipping methods to maintain efficient ordering procedures.
Experience with inventory planning, general purchasing practices, contract negotiations and supplier management.
Generate required reporting to monitor the purchasing process.
Ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and manage multiple projects.
Analyze processes and procedures with a focus on continuous improvement.
LOCATION: Elmira, NY
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work directly with vendors to place purchase orders, monitor any updates or adjustments to the orders as needed.
Assist with negotiating and managing pricing agreements and payment terms with vendors.
Manage and resolve any purchase order issues that arise, document the necessary information.
Generate reports via the ERP system that will be used for improving processes and procedures within the department.
Assist the department manager in managing overall supply chain operations, including material purchasing/planning, inventory management, vendor selection, and vendor relations.
Work efficiently and effectively in a team environment.
Adapt to changes in an evolving environment.
Assist with special projects as requested.
Maintain organized records and workspace.
Travel to be expected for this position will be up to 15%.

Salary Range: 55,000-70,000
