Job Description Associate Director of Content Marketing

University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign The Office of Marketing & Communications in The Grainger College of Engineering seeks applicants for an Associate Director of Content Marketing position. This position is responsible for managing the development of messaging, marketing content and communications and ensuring its alignment with the college brand and messaging strategy in addition to college, department and unit goals. This position manages the storytelling voice of the brand and works collaboratively across the team to develop exceptional content that resonates with key audiences and drives them to action.
Duties and Responsibilities: Content Marketing: - Manage the production of high-quality, on-brand and impactful written content for a range of websites, collateral and materials, including, but not limited to, digital channels, print publications, campaign materials, digital advertising, emails, social media, video and more.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to create and manage innovative content marketing solutions for campaigns, print and digital media ensuring messaging is cohesive, on-brand and resonates with target audiences.
- Lead the development and maintenance of the college's annual content plan, drive college content priorities, and contribute to and support weekly editorial calendar.
- Serve as lead copywriter.
- Serve as an expert on college and university brand standards and messaging strategies.
- Provide quality assurance for all written content, reviewing and ensuring brand voice alignment and that key marketing objectives, college strategies and unit needs are met.
- Research to understand target audience needs and industry trends, incorporating findings into content planning.
Leadership & Strategy: - Present creative concepts to internal and external audiences with clear reasoning behind proposed solutions.
- Facilitate and lead brainstorming sessions for OMC cross-functional to generate creative ideas and strategic and tactical plans for marketing and content campaigns and brand initiatives.
- Inspire and motivate marketing and communications staff, guiding them in creating strategic content that drives college objectives, brand awareness and audience engagement through optimized channels.
- Work closely with OMC leadership to foster strong working relationships and promote effective communication across cross-functional teams.
- Stay informed of emerging topics, trends and strategies relevant to Grainger Engineering audiences.
Other Duties: - Work within OMC project management software and system, maintaining accountability for projects and tasks.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with faculty, students, and staff across the relevant IRUs, research centers, programs and departments.
- Represent Grainger Engineering communications on college and campus committees as requested.
- Assume additional duties related to furthering the Grainger Engineering mission and strategic priorities.
- Champion inter-professional relationships and foster a culture of diversity and inclusion with the department as well as the college.
- Supervise staff and student workers including delegating work, reviewing completed tasks, developing strategies for, and measuring performance.
Minimum Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in marketing, business administration, communications, public relations, or a closely related field.
- Five (5) years of professional work experience in marketing, public relations, communications, brand management, or a related professional area.
- Demonstrated experience in content marketing with a strong emphasis on copywriting.
- Demonstrated experience with the development and implementation of marketing campaigns.
- Demonstrated experience with organizing, interpreting and reporting performance analytics data.
Preferred Qualifications: - Seven (7) or more years of related professional marketing experience.
- Demonstrated experience translating complex ideas into language understandable by a wide audience.
- Demonstrated supervisory experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: - Mastery of grammar, punctuation, and spelling; a high degree of attention to detail; and error-free, clear, compelling language is expected.
- A working knowledge of the AP Style Guide.
- Ability to analyze and derive insight from data to inform decisions.
- Ability to demonstrate strong leadership and strategic thinking.
- Detail oriented, excellent organizational skills, strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to work independently and exercise good judgement.
- Familiarity with SEO principles and content optimization.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse, high-paced, team-based environment.
- Ability to work on many projects simultaneously, under a deadline, and function effectively under pressure with frequent interruptions and direction changes.
APPOINTMENT INFORMATION This is a full-time Civil Service Marketing Associate position appointed on a 12-month service basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the closing date. The minimum salary is $78,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Hybrid work options may be available for this position, with the ability to be on-site as needed. Work authorization is not available for this position.
